Based on a traditional hanging-scroll structure, the work is covered with black foil. The central image field is cut out and filled with the same material. The portrait is formed not through likeness, but through mounting structure, inlay, seams, and material traces.

The work retains the hanging scroll's capacity to be displayed, rolled, stored, and moved; these modes of handling form part of the work itself.
